Though we are all excited about the stirrings of spring, with this change of season comes … the pollen.
For Sylla, that means lots of sneezing, a runny nose, and red eyes. After a day of thinking she might be coming down with a cold, the increasing green and warmth reminds her that it’s probably just allergies. Sound familiar?
That’s why she made some aromatic honey for allergy season a few weeks ago.
Not only do the oils help us control our symptoms from the increasing pollen of the spring season, but local, seasonal honey is a great way to treat this issue as well.

Aromatic Honey Blend
8-10 drops Niaouli (Melaleuca quinquenervia) -or- replace with another Melaleuca species like Tea Tree
2 drops Blue Tansy (Tanacetum annuum)
1 drop Peppermint (Mentha × piperita)
The therapeutic effects of these oils result in a honey that is anti-infectious, a decongestant, and anti-inflammatory. It’s perfect for easing inflamed sinuses and sore throats, and it allows for much better breathing.
We recommend making a big batch so you can use it in an inhaler and oil blend as well!
After watching, comment below and tell us:
- How do you prefer your honey? On a toothpick, in your tea? What other creative ways can we use it?
- What other oils might be good in some aromatic honey and why? (Think of other therapeutic actions you’d like to utilize internally … We use this thinking process to help our students become more confident and creative aromatherapists.)

Thank you for a timely aromatic honey formula! My nose is pouring from the blooms, budding trees and all else spring-like in my area…just what I need!
So glad this reached you at the perfect time!
Oh my! I just made this blend and doubled it so I could make not only the honey but the inhaler and also roller. It couldn’t have come at a better time with everything blooming at my home. It smells soooo good, and so does the honey. Thank you both for sharing this.
All right! How cool you made all three applications!? We are thrilled to know we helped you use your oils for just what you need.
could you suggest a replacement for blue tansy because of a CYP2D6 drug class interaction?
(ADHD)
you could use German Chamomile or any other anti inflammatory oil, even lavender.
thank you
Thank you for making and sharing this! I made the honey (substituted German chamomile CO2 for the blue tansy- which I just ordered) and it’s delicious. Excited to see how it will improve the allergy season for me.
What would the recipe for the master blend that Sylla made the diffuser, roller ball and inhaler with? I’m assuming that for the honey, it would just be the Niaouli, Peppermint and Blue Tansy, 4 drops into 1 oz of honey?
Love your videos! Thank you!!
The ratio is 8-10/1/2 for niaouli, peppermint and blue tansy or thereabouts so make a master blend and add to honey or inhaler/roller!
How often can you use the toothpick per day and is it safe to use the roller throughout the day – I like to put the roller on my wrist and also inhale it that way
toothpick can be used several times a day, especially with scratchy throat; otherwise as preventative- before allergies start the raw local honey only needs once a day. The roller can go anywhere but since the issue is in the sinus area it works best around nose, under eyes, etc.
I doubled the blend recipe and made a double batch of honey and a personal inhaler. I am all set for the spring season. Thank you! <3
I made the honey for my husband. I put one drop of each (substituting tea tree for the niaouli), so actually just 3 drops total, then I realized that I completely forgot to look at the number of drops for each (which is why I typically don’t blend when I’m tired lol) the ratio would make for much less blue tansy and peppermint than the one drop of each that I used. Will this still be OK and effective? (realizing that results vary by person of course)
yes we used less peppermint because its so strong! so I imagine your honey packs a punch, it should be ok. You can always add more of the tea tree to tone it down, depending on how much honey you used! good luck!
This saved my hide today! I used Cajeput and Manuka instead of Niaouli since I didn’t have it. And I added Spruce like suggested. I’ve had this inhaler at my nose all morning and it’s the first time I’ve had relief in a while. Thank you so much for sharing!
Love that you were creative and used what you have…and that it worked! <3
